Free Tamil Jathagam Online: Cast a Full Jathagam Kattam by Date and Time
How to cast a complete Tamil jathagam free — jathagam kattam in South or North style, navamsa, dasa timeline and panchangam — what the free tier really includes, and what to check before trusting any free jathagam site.
You can cast a full Tamil jathagam free at zodian.in: enter birth date, time and place, and the jathagam kattam is drawn in the South Indian style (North Indian is one tap away), with the navamsa, the planetary positions, the Vimshottari dasa timeline and the day’s panchangam alongside it. No card, no trial clock, and nothing on the page competing with your reading.
The harder question is which free jathagam to trust. Almost every site will hand you a chart; far fewer will tell you which ayanamsa produced it, and that single choice moves planets, the lagna and every dasa date. This guide covers what a complete free jathagam should contain, what Zodian’s free tier actually includes, and the checks worth doing before you rely on any of them.
What a complete jathagam actually contains
A jathagam is not only the kattam. A reading needs the chart, the divisional chart that tests it, the timeline that dates it, and the reference frame all three were computed in. A free tool that gives you the first and hides the rest is giving you a picture, not a horoscope.
- Rasi kattam — the twelve houses with the grahas placed, in South or North Indian layout.
- Navamsa (D9) — the divisional chart used to test the strength of what the rasi chart promises, and read closely for marriage.
- Planetary positions — each graha’s rasi, degree, nakshatra and pada, plus retrogression.
- Vimshottari dasa — which mahadasa is running, and the bhukti and antaram inside it.
- Panchangam for the birth day — tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and vara.
- The ayanamsa used — without it, none of the above is reproducible.
Zodian’s free tier includes every item on that list. Ten saved profiles, the rasi and navamsa charts in both styles, the Vimshottari timeline down to antardasa, and daily panchangam and horai.
The ayanamsa question most free jathagam sites skip
The sidereal zodiac is anchored by the ayanamsa — the offset between the tropical and sidereal frames. Choose a different value and every longitude shifts. A few arc-minutes rarely moves a graha across a rasi boundary, but it readily moves the lagna, and it shifts dasa start dates by weeks. This is the single most common reason two jathagams for the same birth disagree.
Tamil practice works in Thirukanitham, which is the Chitrapaksha (Lahiri) frame — the same value the Government of India’s Calendar Reform Committee adopted and official panchangs use. It is Zodian’s default, and the chart header always states which frame produced the reading.
You can switch any chart between four frames: Lahiri/Chitrapaksha (shown as Thirukanitham in Tamil practice), True Chitrapaksha, Raman, and KP (Krishnamurti) for Krishnamurti Paddhati work. Most free jathagam sites fix one value and never name it.
Jathagam kattam by date of birth and time — what precision requires
Two inputs decide whether a jathagam is usable: the birth time and the birth place. The lagna advances through a full rasi in roughly two hours, so a few minutes of error can change the ascendant and, with it, the whole house structure. The place fixes both the latitude used for the ascendant and the correct time zone offset for the moment.
Zodian computes observatory-grade sidereal positions for each chart rather than reading from a rounded pre-built table, so degrees, nakshatra and pada are exact enough for navamsa work — where a pada boundary is only 3°20′ wide and a rounding error genuinely lands a graha in the wrong D9 rasi.
Historical time zones matter too. If you are casting a chart for a birth abroad, or before a country changed its offset, you can pin an exact UTC offset instead of accepting the modern one for that place.
Tamil and English, both complete
Bilingual usually means the labels are translated and the readings are not. In Zodian the interface, the graha and rasi names, the dasa timeline and the panchangam all render in Tamil, with Anek Tamil set at a size matched to the Latin text so the two scripts sit at the same optical weight. Switching language does not change the chart, only how it is written.
Both scripts are available on every surface. Zodian runs free in beta on the web at zodian.in, on iOS via TestFlight, and on Android via the Play Store — the same profiles sync across all three.

| Rasi kattam, South & North | Yes | Yes |
| Navamsa (D9) | Yes | Yes |
| Vimshottari dasa | To antardasa | To antardasa |

The free tier is not a demonstration with the useful parts removed. Ten profiles covers a family, and the chart, navamsa, dasa and panchangam are the same computations Pro users see. Pro is aimed at a practitioner carrying a client book — volume, the full divisional set, strength measures, and reports that go out under their own name.
How to cast yours
- Open zodian.in for Tamil, or zodian.in/en for English.
- Sign in with Google — no card and no phone number.
- Enter the birth date, the time as precisely as you have it, and the place.
- The jathagam kattam appears in the South Indian style; switch to North Indian from the chart header.
- Open the navamsa beside it, then the dasa timeline for the running mahadasa and bhukti.
If the birth time is uncertain, cast the chart anyway and note how close the lagna sits to a rasi boundary. When it is near one, the recorded time is worth checking before any reading is built on the house positions.
Checking a free jathagam before you trust it
Free Tamil jathagam tools are plentiful — Prokerala, Tamilcube and ClickAstro are among the best known, and each is a long-standing, widely used service. Rather than take any site’s word for it, including ours, four checks separate a jathagam you can work from:
- Does it state the ayanamsa on the output? If not, the chart cannot be reconciled with anything else.
- Does the nakshatra pada match a panchangam you already trust for that birth date?
- Does it give the dasa below mahadasa level? Bhukti and antaram are where timing actually lives.
- Does the navamsa agree with the rasi chart’s own degrees? A mismatch means one of the two was rounded.
Frequently asked questions
Is Tamil jathagam really free on Zodian?
Yes. Ten saved profiles are free with no card and no trial clock, and they include the rasi kattam in both South and North Indian styles, the navamsa, the Vimshottari dasa down to antardasa, and daily panchangam and horai. Pro adds unlimited profiles, all sixteen divisional charts, strength measures, porutham reports and branded PDFs.
How do I get a jathagam kattam by date of birth and time?
Enter the birth date, birth time and birth place at zodian.in. The place sets the latitude used for the ascendant and the correct time zone offset for that moment, and the kattam is drawn immediately in the South Indian style, with North Indian one tap away.
Which ayanamsa does a Tamil jathagam use?
Tamil practice uses Thirukanitham, which is the Chitrapaksha (Lahiri) frame — the value official Indian panchangs use. It is Zodian’s default, and you can switch any chart to True Chitrapaksha, Raman or KP. Whichever you pick is stated on the chart header so the reading stays reproducible.
Can I read the jathagam in Tamil?
Yes. The interface, graha and rasi names, dasa timeline and panchangam all render in Tamil, and switching language changes only the script — never the computation.
Do I need to install an app?
No. The full jathagam works in a browser at zodian.in. Zodian runs free in beta on the web at zodian.in, on iOS via TestFlight, and on Android via the Play Store — the same profiles sync across all three.
