Rasi Palan Today: Your Daily Tamil Horoscope by Moon Sign
What rasi palan is, why it is read from your Moon sign rather than your birthday, how to find your janma rasi, and what actually drives a daily prediction.
Rasi palan is the daily reading for your rasi — and the single most important thing to know is that your rasi is not decided by your birthday. It is your janma rasi, the zodiac sign the Moon occupied at the moment you were born. Someone born on 14 April may be Mesham or Rishabam depending on the year, the hour and the place, and reading the wrong sign makes the whole exercise meaningless.
This is where Tamil and Vedic practice part company with the newspaper horoscope. A Western daily column keys off the Sun sign, which stays put for about a month and can be worked out from the date alone. Rasi palan keys off the Moon, which changes sign roughly every two and a quarter days — so the sign has to be computed from your birth date, time and place before any daily reading applies to you.
Finding your janma rasi
The Moon moves about thirteen degrees a day and crosses a sign boundary every two to two and a half days. Your janma rasi is whichever of the twelve it was in at your moment of birth, which means you need a time and a place, not just a date. If you were born close to a boundary, an hour of uncertainty in the birth time genuinely can move you to the neighbouring sign.

What actually drives a daily reading
A daily rasi palan is not a prophecy drawn from nowhere. It is a reading of where the transiting grahas stand today relative to your janma rasi — chiefly the Moon, which changes the emotional weather every couple of days, and the slower movers whose position sets the background for months or years at a time.
- The Moon’s current sign counted from your rasi — the fastest-moving and most obviously daily factor.
- Saturn’s position from your Moon, which produces the long phases people know by name: Sade Sati when it sits in the 12th, 1st or 2nd, Ashtama Sani in the 8th, Kantaka Sani in the 4th.
- Jupiter’s sign from your Moon, generally read as the year’s supporting or unsupporting current.
- Faster grahas — Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars — colouring particular areas for days or weeks.
This is why two people with the same rasi can be given the same daily reading and why that reading is necessarily broad. A rasi palan speaks to one twelfth of the population. Your own chart — the full jathagam with its lagna, its house lords and its running dasa — is what makes a reading specific, and no daily column can substitute for it.
Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly
| Reading | Driven mainly by | Changes |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | The Moon’s transit from your rasi | Every 2–2½ days |
| Weekly | Moon cycle plus the faster grahas | Weekly |
| Monthly | Sun’s sign, Mercury and Venus | Monthly |
| Yearly | Jupiter and Saturn’s positions from your rasi | Annually, at the transits |
The yearly rasi palan carries the most weight of the four, because Jupiter changes sign roughly once a year and Saturn roughly every two and a half — and those are the transits that produce the phases people actually feel and plan around.
Reading rasi palan honestly
- It applies to a twelfth of everyone alive. Treat it as weather, not instruction.
- It cannot see your dasa, your lagna or your house lords, which is where the specifics live.
- A daily reading that promises exact events is overreaching. Transits describe conditions, not outcomes.
- If a reading and your own chart disagree, the chart wins — it is the more specific document.
Rasi palan in Zodian
Zodian works out your janma rasi from your birth details rather than asking you to pick a sign, so the reading you get is keyed to the Moon’s actual position at your birth.
- Janma rasi and nakshatra computed from birth date, time and place.
- Daily rasi palan in Tamil and English, with Kannada and Malayalam.
- A transit view showing where the grahas stand from your Moon right now, with Sade Sati, Ashtama Sani and Kantaka Sani identified when Saturn is in those houses.
- The full jathagam behind the reading — lagna, house lords and the running Vimshottari dasa — for when the daily summary is not enough.
Honest note: a daily rasi palan is general by construction. Zodian shows it because people want it, but the chart and the dasa are what the app is actually built around, and they are the place to look when a decision matters. Zodian runs free in beta on the web at zodian.in, on iOS via TestFlight, and on Android via the Play Store — the same profiles sync across all three.
Frequently asked questions
What is rasi palan?
Rasi palan is the prediction for your rasi — your Moon sign at birth, called the janma rasi. It reads the current positions of the grahas relative to that sign. It is the Tamil and Vedic equivalent of a horoscope column, but keyed to the Moon rather than the Sun.
How do I find my rasi?
Your rasi is the sign the Moon occupied when you were born, so it must be computed from your birth date, time and place — not from your birthday alone. The Moon changes sign every two to two and a half days, so people born on the same date in different years usually have different rasis.
Is rasi the same as my zodiac sign?
Usually not. The sign you know from your birthday is the Sun sign used in Western astrology. Rasi is the Moon sign. The two happen to match in roughly one case in twelve, so most people who assume they are the same are reading the wrong sign.
Why does my daily rasi palan feel generic?
Because it is addressed to one twelfth of the population. A daily reading can only account for the transiting grahas relative to your Moon sign — it cannot see your lagna, your house lords or your running dasa, which is where anything specific to you actually comes from.
What is Sade Sati and how does it relate to rasi palan?
Sade Sati is the roughly seven-and-a-half year period when Saturn transits the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from your janma rasi. It is one of the strongest background influences a rasi palan reflects, and it is read from the Moon sign, which is why knowing your correct rasi matters.
